| After receiving the title of "World Car of the Year 2006", BMW decided to publish an ad which sneakily poked fun at Audi for only taking home "South African Car of the Year 2006"...

In retaliation AUDI published an ad congratulating BMW on their success, but subtly reminded BMW of their supremacy at Le Mans...

No doubt wanting some of the action Subaru congratulated both BMW and AUDI on their achievements. Pointing out that they Subaru was awarded the title of "2006 International Engine of the Year".

But Bentley's advertisement takes the cake..

I can't confirm the legitimacy of these ads. If anyone has any insight please post a comment.

 Breaking News
More information about the above ads can be found here. It has been pointed out that the Audi ad is not entirely accurate (there are actually 7 consecutive La Mans races between 2000 and 2006). Whether or not its fake is a different issue though.
A few more photos have been found, it looks like this ad war has been going on for quite some time. The following ad is by BMW, stating that "Driving a Mercedes can give you pleasure too"..

The Subaru ad below gives the Nissan 350Z something to think about.

Another Subaru ad, this time taking aim at the Volkswagen GTI. Apparently Volkswagen created a character called "Fast" for their ad campaigns. This is an obvious cop-out:

This ad pits BMW against Ferrari 355, Porsche 911, Acura NSX, Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Boxster, Dodge Viper and Toyota Supra.

But personally this is my favourite ad, it pits a BMW against a Jaguar with no slogan or catch-phrase. The BMW looks like an aggressive "go-getter" (like a Hawk) while the Jaguar looks scared and frightened (like an Owl).

If you can validate any of the above ads please be sure to do so in the comments.

The Subaru ad stating "Well done to Audi and BMW for winning a beauty contest, from the winner of the 2006 International engine of the year"
That's somewhat misleading given that they only won the 2.0 to 2.5 liter category in 2006, when BMW won the Best Engine 3.0L to 4.0L category (3.2 M3, MZ4), Best Engine 2.5 to 3.0 (335d Turbo Diesel), Best Engine 4.0 Liter and Up (5.0 V10 M5, M6), Best Performance Engine (5.0 V10 M5, M6) and the Best Overall International Engine of the Year (5.0 V10 M5, M6). The latter winning 2 years in a row.
You should also know that in 2007, BMW actually won the 2.0 to 2.5 lilter category now with it's 2.5 liter (325i, 525i). and all the other ones listed above as well with the 335i engine winning the Best Overall International Engine of the year as well as the Best New Engine of the YEar
