Gold Glover Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies. Can't say when or where this happened, or against who.

joeblow commented on November 13, 2007

Here it is...@ Cleveland June 18, 2007. Pitcher was Cliff Lee in the top of the 5th inning.

Earnie commented on November 13, 2007

It doesn't look like he was even trying to duck.

Furball46 commented on November 13, 2007

This gives the old saying "keep your eye on the ball" ... a new and painful meaning defination.

Troy commented on November 13, 2007

Earnie commented on November 13, 2007

Jimmy Rollins was hit by this pitch on 6/18/07 in a game vs the Cleveland Indians. The offending pitcher was Cliff Lee. Here is the link to the Phillies website which has the picture and game stats: tinyurl.com/33le2e

BW commented on November 13, 2007

Not sure anyone needs to help you with that. Does anyone know if this ball was hit him on the fly or did it hit the ground/plate first? I'd like to see that video.

Matthew commented on November 13, 2007

thaaaat's it........keep yer eye on the ball

humberto (illegal) commented on November 13, 2007

hahahha viva mexicoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Earnie commented on November 13, 2007

I don't think it would be possible for the ball to bounce that high if it hit the ground first. It would have had to hit the ground about halfway between the mound and home plate. It seems like it would be easier to dodge the pitch if it hit ground first.

Jeff commented on November 13, 2007

LOL that's great. Just to add insult to injury, they lost that game 10 - 1.

BW commented on November 13, 2007

Earnie, have you ever played/seen a baseball game? It is very possible for the ball to hit a rock or the front edge of the plate and bounce straight up. And furthermore, the reason I ask is because I would suspect a player of his caliber would recieve much more press over being hit directly in the face with a pitch as opposed to a foul tip that hit the plate and came back up. Ahhhh the possibilities. Video anyone?

Sean Jordan commented on November 13, 2007

How can you say that's Ryan Howard or Jimmy Rollins?! It's definitely a shark.

MrC commented on November 13, 2007

Definately not a sharke. It's a dolpin! That oughta leave a mark.

MrC commented on November 13, 2007

They told him to use his head when at the plate. He took it literally.

MrC commented on November 13, 2007

Bunt!!

Earnie commented on November 13, 2007

BW, yes I have played/seen a baseball game. However, I see some flaws in your logic. First, if the ball hit the front of the plate, then it doesn't seem like it would be able to approach from the angle suggested in the picture. Second, I'm willing to bet that since this is a major league park, they probably work pretty hard to keep rocks out of the infield. Also, if it were a foul tip, the batters position would indicate that he had just swung the bat, which is not the case. That's just me thinking out loud, It would be interesting to see a video in order to find out whose theory is in fact reality.

john commented on November 13, 2007

Q, How about making the stupid comments (earnie, bw, jimmy john, humberto, etc) the same color as the background so a reader would have to select the text manually with their cursor to be able to see and read the text. I vote for that idea (not that we were voting), and it should appease the "do not moderate" nuts.

Jimmy John commented on November 13, 2007

mrc why are you bringing stuff up from yestersday? lets just talk about the new picture and forget the one form yestersday ok? we already fond out that it was a sharke not a dolpin so just drop it ok?

BW commented on November 13, 2007

It looks like he checked his swing, foul tipped the ball to the plate, and it came straight back up. I would imagine if he was hit directly in the face there would be enough damage to put him out for awhile. Nothing that I've seen when searching suggests this.-------------------What I have found is the box score for this game which shows he had zero BBs for the game. I believe HBPs (hit by pitches) are listed under BB in the box score. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=270618105 -------------------------also, here's the recap: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270618105 -------------------------I would think that if Rollins was hit directly in the face, ESPN would have made a note of it.----------------Also, I think John should moderate the site for you Quintem. He could moderate comments a week after their posted and then place them on the wrong page just like he responds to topics a week after their posted on a completely different page. Good thinking John!

MrC commented on November 13, 2007

@john...good idea you bastard!

BW commented on November 13, 2007

I stand corrected. HBP...must have a hard ass head

Peter North, I don't see any captions from you my dear. I think you can only qualify to judge someone elses posts once you have made a valid attempt at commenting on the subject at hand. Ciao Bello

josh commented on November 14, 2007

now i have to ask something. how do we know the ball actually hit his face? i only ask because in looking at the picture his right hand is higher up on the bat indicating he is a right-handed hitter. if this is so, then the ball would be traveling from right to left as we look at the picture. so if the ball is traveling right to left how do we know it hit him or even touched him for that matter? he could just be making a face like that as he is trying to move out of the way. granted i didnt see the game or this happen so i am only begging the question.
